After the guard fails to recognize him, Brendon McCullum is denied entry to Headingly: Report

The head coach of the England men’s Test team was allegedly engaged in a short stand-off with a security guard at the Headingly after being denied access into the stadium where the third Test of the Ashes 2023 is now underway, with sporting facilities in England on high alert amid Just Stop Oil rallies.

The security officer at Headingly reportedly failed to recognize McCullum because he lacked the proper pass.

McCullum argued for admittance, and the person with him argued that the New Zealander’s presence was essential to the England squad, which was behind Australia in the five-match series 0-2 at the time.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-63202″ src=”×422.png” alt=”” width=”1560″ height=”878″ srcset=”×422.png 750w,×576.png 1024w,×432.png 768w,×220.png 390w,×84.png 150w, 1280w” sizes=”(max-width: 1560px) 100vw, 1560px” />

Before McCullum reportedly lost his cool and entered the venue stating, “You’ll just have to deal with it,” the guard attempted speaking to his superior for help.

After an incident during the Lord’s Test, when a few of demonstrators infiltrated the location and flung orange powder onto the field before being escorted, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) was forced to enhance security at Headingly.

A few individuals were turned away from the site on the opening day of the third Test match between England and Australia out of concern about a disturbance.

The two were denied admittance because, according to the Daily Mail, security guards at the event conducted a check and discovered they were wearing Just Stop Oil t-shirts and carrying luggage, raising suspicions.

The problems haven’t only affected English cricket.

Just Stop Oil protestors stopped play twice at the Wimbledon Championships 2023 earlier this week. Before three arrests were made in connection with the event, two courts were covered with orange confetti, glitter, and jigsaw puzzles.

According to the BBC, all three were granted bail and will appear before City of Westminster Magistrates the first week of August.

The World Snooker Championship was also interrupted by the UK-based environmental protest organization in Sheffield in April of this year.
