Owner David Beckham greets Lionel Messi warmly at Inter Miami

On Sunday, former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi signed a contract with Inter Miami, and club owner David Beckham gave him a heartfelt welcome. Beckham, who has previously represented PSG, spent time with the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer (MLS) before returning to Europe to sign with PSG.

Beckham launched Inter Miami after deciding that he wanted to control an MLS team after his retirement in 2013.

While the team hasn’t had much success, they have recruited Messi, his former Barca colleague Sergio Busquets, and former Barca coach Tata Martino. A day after Messi’s formal signing was announced, Martino supervised a humiliating 3-0 loss to St. Louis in his first game as a manager.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-80378″ src=”×422.jpg” alt=”” width=”1562″ height=”879″ srcset=”×422.jpg 750w,×432.jpg 768w,×220.jpg 390w,×84.jpg 150w, 824w” sizes=”(max-width: 1562px) 100vw, 1562px” />

Beckham added in his touching message for Messi that his “dream came true” and that he was eager to see Messi play for his new team.

“Ten years ago, when I set out to create a new team in Miami, I said that one of my dreams was to attract the best players in the world to this incredible city. Beckham was reported by the Evening Standard as stating, “Players who shared the ambition I had when I joined LA Galaxy to help grow football in the USA and to build a legacy for the next generation in this sport that we love so much.”

“Today that dream came true,” he continued. Having a player of Leo’s level join our team makes me really proud, but I’m also thrilled to welcome a wonderful friend, an incredible guy, and his gorgeous family to our Inter Miami community. Our journey’s next chapter begins right now, and I can’t wait to see Leo take the field.

Just in time for the USA to host the FIFA World Cup in 2026, the Club World Cup in 2025, and the Copa America in 2024, Messi has joined the football revolution in the country.

On July 22, the 36-year-old will make his Leagues Cup debut against Cruz Azul.
